JOS Project
Target Type: Intrusion-hosted gold | |
Location: Northwest Territories, Canada |
Overview
Rackla acquired the JOS Property after identifying Cretaceous-age intrusive centres with characteristic magnetic low and resistivity high centers which appeared to have RIRGS potential. A ZTEM survey was conducted in the area.
Property Tenure
Rackla Metals staked the JOS property claims in the NWT in August 2023 and owns 100% of the mineral claim rights. The property consists of ten mineral claims measuring 9,500 hectares.
Exploration History
The exploration history of the JOS property area is very limited. In 1999, a joint-venture between Eagle Plains Resources and Miner River Resources acquired two prospecting permits and conducted a short prospecting program collecting 32 silt samples and 9 rock samples. The best results were 0.18 ppm gold from a rock sample, and 39 ppb gold from a stream sediment sample. In 2006 and 2007, Eagle Plains staked mineral claims in the southern part of the prospecting permit area and conducted a short prospecting program which identified a few silver anomalies from stream sediment samples.
In 2011, Aben Resources optioned the property from Eagle Plains and collected 165 soil, 5 stream sediment and 38 rock samples. One rock sample returned 0.15 ppm gold in siltstone, and two multi-element Au-As-Zn-Cu-Ag+Sb soil geochemical anomalies were identified in an area surrounding the Suriso intrusive. No further work was performed and the claims were allowed to lapse.
Rackla researched government geological and geophysical data covering the area and noted similarities between the geological setting, magnetic and electromagnetic response at JOS as compared to the Valley and Gracie discoveries belonging to Snowline Gold Corp. Late in the 2022 season Rackla staked the JOS claims and conducted a short property visit noting interesting quartz veining in the intrusive rocks.
In 2023, Rackla conducted a reconnaissance program consisting of sediment sampling, prospecting and rock sampling.
Geological Setting
The property is underlain by clastic sediments, including chert-sandstone, siltstone and shales of the Prevost Formation. These rocks are strongly sulphidized and oxidized by the emplacement of Late Cretaceous intrusions in the southwestern and southeastern part of the property. The intrusions belong to the Mayo Suite and are of monzogranitic composition.
Exploration Target
The JOS property has had very little historic exploration. The reconnaissance work conducted by Rackla in 2023 has indicated that the property has potential for RIRGS-style mineralization. In 2024, Rackla plans to conduct further prospecting and a soil geochemical survey to test the potential for gold mineralization on the property.
